Jask (IP) - Khark, an Iranian vessel that caught fire off the southern coast of Iran, sank in Jask waters in the Persian Gulf, an accident without any casualty despite twenty hours of efforts.

Iran PressIran News: The Khark vessel has been used in operational and educational missions for the past 40 years.

The naval training support vessel, which had set sail for a training mission in the high seas a few days earlier, caught fire on Tuesday near the port of Jask, but all the crew disembarked safely and were taken ashore.

According to the Navy statement in the early hours after the fire broke out, with the help of the ship damage control team, all the personnel were transferred from the ship to shore.

Attempts by civilian and military vessels and devices to extinguish the fire and rescue the Khark vessel were unsuccessful, and the vessel calmed down in the waters of the Jask area.

No casualties were reported as the entire staff was safely rescued.

Khark logistic vessel had been serving in the Iranian army since 1984.
