Majid Gharibi, a 34 -year- old Iranian kayaker began his journey 9 days ago from the city of Arvandkenar In Abadan county, in Khuzestan Province to commemorate Persian Gulf Day in Iran.

He is due to arrive at Hormuz Island on Monday, April 30, 2018. Iran has designated April 30th as the National Persian Gulf Day.

The date coincides with the anniversary of Shah Abbas' successful military campaign against the Portuguese navy in the Persian Gulf, driving the Portuguese colonial forces out of the Strait of Hormuz in the Capture of Hormuz (1622).

National Persian Gulf Day is a very important day for the Iranian people and it is celebrated annually on April 30th. It has taken place every year since 2004, and is marked with various ceremonies all over Iran, especially in the coastal cities of the Persian Gulf.

Majid Gharibi arrived yesterday,9th of April, in the portal city of Bushehr, a city that has become the symbol of Iranian Nuclear technology. His arrival in Bushehr was arranged to coincide with National Day of Nuclear Technology,that was yesterday, 9th of April. He paddles 40 kilometers a day during this journey to reach the Hormuz Island.

" My Persian Gulf coast line kayaking is aimed at commemorating the name of the Persian Gulf. The motto of my  journey is support for Iranian products", said Majid Gharibi.

"I began rowing from Martyrs Monument in Arvandkenar. The finishing point is  Hormuz Island. I will arrive at Hormuz Island on National Persian Gulf Day", he added.
