The unveiling ceremony of the kamancheh registration as Iran's intangible cultural heritages in UNESCO took place on Thursday night.

Iran press/ Iran- The ceremony was held in the presence of vice-President and Head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Ali Asghar Monesan at Tehran's Niavaran Cultural Center.

The kamancheh  is an Iranian bowed string instrument, used also in Armenian, Azerbaijani, Turkish and Kurdish music.

Famous Iranian kamancheh players include Ali-Asghar Bahari, Ardeshir Kamkar, Saeed Farajpouri, and Kayhan Kalhor.

UNESCO listed Kamancheh, an Iranian bowed stringed instrument, and the team sport of polo as Iranian cultural heritages in a session held in South Korea on December 7, 2017.

Iran has so far had thirteen entries in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO some of which are multinational heritages such as Nowruz and Kamancheh.
