Iran Press/Middle East: The media office for the affairs of the Israeli-captured Palestinians announced that four prisoners have been infected with Coronavirus in Majdoo prison.
Coronavirus spread throughout the occupied territories. According to the Israeli regime’s Ministry of Health, the number of people infected with the virus has increased to 427.
Zionist authorities have repeatedly expressed concern about the spread of Coronavirus in the occupied territories and have taken steps to counter the virus, but these concerns and measures do not include Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails.
About 6,000 Palestinians, including 62 women and 300 minors, are in Israeli prisons. Prior to the outbreak of coronavirus, Palestinian prisoners were exposed to many health problems in Israeli jails, including the prevention of treatment such as dispatching patients to health centers and providing them with medicines, disregards manifested in the medical slumber policy.
Meanwhile, the Zionist regime's prisons wherein the Palestinians are in detention, are not in good condition and the regime does not change its policy towards the Palestinian prisoners. Israeli officials now disregard the Palestinian captives' condition in a situation that the Coronavirus is more likely to spread in contaminated and unsanitary environments.
The spokesman for the Center for Palestinian Studies Riyadh al-Ashqar said that despite the Covid-19 and its rapid spread, the occupation regime has not yet taken necessary measures to prevent its entry into prisons and does not provide the prisoners with disinfectants.
Still, according to some reports, the Israeli regime does not have much control over the situation of the prison wards. The wards who are on leave and infected with the Coronavirus continue to work and turn to a way to transfer the virus to the Palestinian prisoners.
At the same time, the Zionist regime uses physicians infected with Corona to treat Palestinian prisoners and this is also a way to transfer the virus to Palestinian prisoners.
In this regard, the head of the Committee for Palestinian Captives and Freedmen’s Qadri Abu Bakr announced that the Zionist regime had sent an infected doctor to Asqalan prison to treat a Palestinian patient and that the prisoners are now at risk of the disease.
Riyadh al-Ashqar also said that the occupation regime has not yet taken necessary measures to prevent the entry of disease into prisons and that it had not provided detainees with detergents, but under the excuse of the Coronavirus outbreak, it has prevented the captives from visiting their families or lawyers.
In such circumstances, the requests of the Palestinians, as well as some Arab representatives of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset), have increased for urgent measures to save the lives of the Palestinians, but the regime has ignored the demands.
Accordingly, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) called on international law agencies to take action to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners jailed in the Zionist regime’s prisons, following the outbreak of Coronavirus.
