Tehran (IP) – Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a statement celebrating the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, calling it a monumental victory for the Palestinian resistance and a major defeat for the Israeli regime.

Iran Press/Iran news: The ceasefire, brokered by Qatar and Egypt, was announced by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani late on Wednesday. It consists of three phases and would come into effect on Sunday over a span of 42 days.

The truce deal, which would potentially bring an end to the Israeli regime's devastating genocidal aggression on the territory, stipulates that a large-scale prisoner exchange will occur, including the release of 1,000 prisoners from Gaza and hundreds of detainees serving lengthy sentences.

The first stage involves the release of 33 captives, including "children, women, female soldiers, men above 50, and the wounded and sick," as well as a gradual, partial withdrawal of invading Israeli units.

The statement lauded the resilience of the Palestinian people and their resistance movements, particularly Hamas, while condemning the Israeli regime’s genocidal actions during the conflict.

The Statement in Context

The IRGC referenced Quranic verses to underscore the divine nature of a “clear conquest” for the Palestinian resistance. The statement attributed the outcome to the steadfastness of Gaza’s people and the strategic determination of the resistance movements.

“This ceasefire, imposed on the Zionist regime after 16 months of heroic resistance following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, is a historic triumph for Palestine and a devastating blow to the monstrous Zionist regime,” the IRGC declared.

Backdrop of the Gaza Genocide

The regime launched its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after Hamas-led resistance groups carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The IRGC condemned the loss of civilian lives in Gaza, claiming that over 50,000 Palestinians were killed during the conflict, with hundreds of thousands more injured. They also pointed to the destruction of over 80% of Gaza’s infrastructure as evidence of the regime’s inhumane conduct. Despite these losses, the IRGC praised Gaza’s “unparalleled resilience,” calling it the key factor that forced the Israeli regime to the negotiating table.

The statement also highlighted Hamas’s ability to emerge “strong and proud” from the ceasefire negotiations, calling the movement a symbol of “divine justice and the victory of right over might.”
