Iran Press/ Iran News: 'The stupid and illegal move by the adventurous US president and his inner circle is the result of their grudge and anger for a string of defeats this pharaonic system has suffered in the region as well as the deadly blows from the Iranian nation and this popular institution,' the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said in a message published on Tuesday.
The United States officially designated Iran’s IRGC as a foreign terrorist organization, according to a notice published in the US Federal Register on Monday, IRNA reported.
US President Donald Trump said last week he would make the symbolic, but an unprecedented move which was immediately condemned by Iran. Majority of politicians from all sides of the Iranian political spectrum rallied in support of the IRGC in a bid to show their support. Also, the Iranian lawmakers, wearing IRGC’s olive green uniforms, attended the parliament on Sunday.
The Iranian press also filled their front pages with the news and reactions to the move. The reformist Etemad newspaper front page titled 'I’m a guard' is a clear bipartisan support for the IRGC forces.
The IRGC expressed its gratitude for the show of support, promising a reciprocal and commensurate response to the enemies, especially the rogue and terrorist-producing government of the US'.
The latest anti-Iran move of Trump received fierce reactions from Iranian officials.
The country's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in a letter to President Hassan Rouhani called for a retaliatory move by labeling the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) as a terrorist organization and the US government as a sponsor of terrorism.104/211/213
