The Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS) announced the arrest of the so-called "Abu Harith Baghdad", the so-called official (of the Al-Qadisiyah Division) of the ISIS terrorists.

Iran PressMiddle East: The agency stated in a statement that "the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, based on accurate intelligence information, was able to arrest the terrorist called "Abu Harith Baghdad" (Muthanna Muhammad Jabbar Afrit), one of the most dangerous leaders of ISIS.

"The terrorist belonged to the ranks of terrorist groups in the year 2005 and worked within the Baghdad detachments, then moved in the year 2007 to work in other detachments to plant explosive devices and assassinations in the capital, and in the year 2009 he moved to Nineveh Governorate and joined ISIS as a leader of the so-called Al-Qadisiyah Division," added the statement.

"After the defeat of ISIS in In the year 2017, news of his death was spread in an attempt to stop the legal prosecutions against him," INIS said.

"Abu Harith Baghdad tried to enter the capital Baghdad under a false name and a false identity, where he was arrested in a tight ambush that lasted for ten continuous hours on Thursday, 27 July 2023 [as millions of mourners attended a mourning ceremony in the Iraqi city of Karbala marking the Tasu'a night to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (A.S.), The third Shia Imam, and his loyal companions, including Hazrat Abbas (A.S.), the brother of Imam Hussain] and handed over to the duly competent authorities," the statement concluded.

It is worth noting, since 2011, with the Western countries' conspiracy which led to the formation of Takfiri terrorist groups, including ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra in the region, the then Quds Force Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani launched a new mission to counter these threats in both Iraq and Syria.

Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani formed the 'Hashed al-Shabi' in Iraq and the Syrian 'National defense force' in Syria, and within six years, the terrorists had almost been obliterated in the two countries.

Lieutenant General Ghasem Soleimani and Abou Mahdi al-Mohandis, deputy of Hashed al-Shabi were martyred in a targeted US drone strike on 3 January 2020 in Baghdad, Iraq, on the orders of ex-US President Donald Trump.

Undoubtedly the emphasis is placed on the position of the martyred Quds Force commander of the IRGC due to the special role he played in the fight against terrorism, especially the ISIS terrorists in Iraq and Syria.
