Iran Press/ Asia: On Monday, Sara Abdolmaleki won Iran's first medal in the 2022 Asian Para Games. She claimed a bronze medal in the Canoe Sprint women's KL1 event with a time of 1:13.594. Chinese rower Maosan Xie took the gold with a time of 55.478 seconds, while Japanese athlete Monika Seryu won silver.
Para canoe athletes Shahla Berouzi Rad and Roya Soltani also achieved success for Iran in the 2022 Asian Para Games, winning a silver and bronze medal respectively. Berouzi Rad secured silver in the Women's KL3 Final with a time of 51.684 seconds. Uzbekistan's Shakhnoza Mirzaeva won gold with 50.680 seconds, and China's Yuqingyan Cai claimed bronze with 52.970 seconds. Soltani seized bronze in the Women's KL2 Final, finishing with a time of 56.714 seconds. India's Prachi Yadav won gold with 54.962 seconds, and China's Shanshan Wang took silver with 55.674 seconds.
Mehrdad Moradi added to Iran's success by winning gold in the Men's 100m-T12 Final on Tuesday, finishing with a time of 11.17 seconds. Indonesian athlete Eko Saputra claimed silver with a time of 11.22 seconds, while Japanese sprinter Daiki Ishiyama won bronze with a time of 11.36 seconds.
Sadegh Beyt Sayah also contributed to Iran's medal tally by winning silver in the Men's Javelin Throw Throw-F41 Final on Tuesday, throwing a distance of 45.20 meters. Sun Pengxiang from China secured gold with a throw of 48.46 meters, and Iraqi athlete Wildan Nukhailawi took bronze with a distance of 42.87 meters.
In swimming events, Iranian swimmers Sina Zeighaminejad, Shahin Izadyar, and Mohammad Hossein Karimi achieved success for their country on Monday. Zeighaminejad claimed gold in the Men's 50m Freestyle - S10 Final with a time of 25.74 seconds, while Izadyar won silver with a time of 25.87 seconds and Japan’s Akito Minai took bronze at 25.98 seconds.
Karimi secured silver in the Men’s 100-meter Backstroke event, finishing second with a time of 1:09:95; Indonesian Rifky Yavianda won bronze at 1:03:55.
Zeighaminejad and Izadyar also earned medals on Monday by claiming gold and silver respectively in the Men’s Breaststroke - SB9 event.
The Hangzhou Asian Para Games will continue until October 28th and feature nearly 3,100 athletes from 44 countries and regions competing across sports and events.
This marks China’s second hosting since Guangzhou held the games in 2010.
