Italia (IP) - Iran's Greco-Raman junior wrestlers won colorful medals at the beginning of the U17 World Championships in Rome, one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.

Iran PressIran News: During the competitions underway in Ossetia in the first five weight categories, Ali Ahmadi Vafa defeated rivals from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and India and snatched gold in the 48 kg weight category. 

Ahoura Baviri defeated his rivals from Kazakhstan 5-2, Uzbekistan6-2, Armenia 10-4, and the Republic of Azerbaijan 1-1, yet he was overcome by an American rival 6-0, reaching the silver medal in the 65 kg weight category. 

Still, Reza Azarshab defeated rivals from Finland 3-0, Estonia 9-0, and Japan, but he was stopped against a rival from the Republic of Azerbaijan 9-0 in the semi-finals. Yet he defeated a competitor from Serbia and won a bronze medal in the 80 kg weight category.  

Mohammad Jahangiri defeated his Bulgarian rival 8-0. Then he was overcome by a wrestler from Hungary 4-3. In the losers group, he overcame a rival from Egypt. In ranking competitions, he defeated the Ukrainian wrestler 9-0 and snatched the bronze medal in the 110 kg weight category. 

But, Mohammad Kamali was omitted from the competitions after a Ukrainian athlete defeated him in the 55 kg weight category. 

Within the first five weight categories, Iran stood second with 75 points; the Republic of Azerbaijan stood first with 80 points, and Turkiye stood third with 60 points. 

The second five weight categories' competition of the U17 World Championships will be held on Wednesday evening in Ossetia.
