Moscow (IP) - The Kremlin announced today that Russian and Iranian Presidents Vladimir Putin and held a telephone conversation after the failed rebellion of the 'Wagner' military group.

Iran PressEurope: According to the statement of Kremlin, in this phone call, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi backed the actions of the Russian government regarding the events of June 24, when the Wagner group rebelled against the Russian army.

Kremlin also announced that the presidents of the two countries discussed other international issues, including ensuring stability in the South Caucasus and resolving the Syrian issue.

The satatement also stated that both sides discussed the outlook of further development of beneficial bilateral cooperation with emphasis on the practical implementation of existing agreements in the fields of trade, energy and transportation in this conversation. The presidents of the two countries also agreed on the continuation of contacts.

Last week, the Wagner militia group took control of the city of Rostov in protest against the actions of the Russian Ministry of Defense and an operation that it considered an attack on its own forces' camp, and moved towards Moscow in the form of a military rebellion, which was defended by the Russian army. The situation surrounding Wagner's mutiny appeared to calm down, with Wagner boss Evgeny Prigozhin announcing Saturday evening that his forces had halted their march on Moscow and would be returning to their home bases after talks reportedly mediated by Minsk.
