Tehran (IP) - Iranian researchers designed silicone stents and underwent initial testing on animals.

Iran PressIran News: An inter-university project involving researchers from Tehran University's faculties of Mechanical Engineering and Medical Science and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences resulted in the creation of a silicone stent.

Mostafa Baghani, associate professor of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Tehran University, pointed to the capabilities of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty, which prioritized silicone stents production.

A Tehran University's Science Club representative emphasized the importance of improving the technology and infrastructure for silicone stents. This is necessary due to issues with importing medical equipment and the high cost for patients who require this treatment. Improving the accessibility of this technology would greatly benefit those in need.

Baghani explained that gold sheets are inserted inside the stent to view the lung stents in the radiograph during the procedure.

The results of this research have been published in Frontiers in Materials. This multidisciplinary journal explores the breadth of materials science, engineering, and mechanics - from carbon-based materials to intelligent materials.
