Kyrgyz parliament speaker and the Iranian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan emphasized the importance of political, economic and cultural interactions between Tehran and Bishkek.

Iran Press/Asia: Dastan Jumabekov, representing Bishkek and Saeed Kharrazi, representing Tehran, discussed the current situation and prospects for the development of bilateral political, economic, cultural and humanitarian interactions, and shared their views on expanding parliamentary cooperation with each other, Iran Press reported.

The Kyrgyz parliament speaker expressed readiness to expand trade and economic relations with Iran, saying, "Currently, trade between Kyrgyzstan and Iran is limited to $ 30 million, but this is not a reflection of the economic opportunities between us."

He further noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is interested in attracting Iran’s investment in the country's hydroelectric industry as well as in the exchange of knowledge about the construction of small and medium-sized hydroelectric stations.

Along with emphasizing the issue of expanding cooperation with Tehran, the senior Kyrgyz official also referred to stopping Kyrgyz drivers behind Iranian borders and called for Kharrazi's cooperation to resolve the problem.

Previously, Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan Abdurrahmanov announced at a news conference that 54 Kyrgyz truck drivers had been banned from leaving Iran to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
