East Azerbaijan's Deputy Chief for Cultural and Social Affairs of Iran's Police reported the tragic death of a dedicated police officer during a confrontation with criminal elements in Malekan County.

Iran PressIran news:  Colonel Hashem Shafi detailed the incident on Sunday, explaining that as the Arbaeen commemoration approaches, Colonel Bahman Marandi was martyred while bravely attempting to restore order and counteract security threats during an operation against smugglers.

Colonel Marandi was deliberately struck by the smugglers' vehicle on the night of August 4th. Despite receiving immediate medical attention at Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz, he succumbed to his severe injuries early this morning.

Shafi announced that the perpetrators were swiftly apprehended and brought to justice within 24 hours, thanks to the decisive actions and directives of East Azerbaijan's police commander.

Extending his condolences to the martyr's family, colleagues, and the community, Shafi emphasized that Colonel Marandi's legacy would endure in the hearts of both citizens and law enforcement personnel.

"He sacrificed his life so we might live in peace and security," Shafi stated.

The public is invited to attend the funeral procession for this esteemed martyr. The ceremony will take place at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 12th, in his hometown of Bonab, with the procession also passing through Malekan, where he served.
