Iran's Foreign Minister met with the Secretary General of the UN and discussed the recent international developments with him.

Iran PressIran news: Hossein Amir-Abdollahain arrived in the US to attend the United Nations Security Council meeting in Palestine to discuss the international developments with Antonio Guterres, including the issue of Gaza and the Iranian armed forces' response to the Israeli regime's attack on Iranian soil.

Amir-Abdollahian said: "Although Iran was able to carry out this operation in a wider radius, only that part of the military positions of the Zionist regime was targeted,"

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a retaliatory strike on multiple locations in Israel early morning on April 14, in response to an Israeli terrorist attack.

Amir-Abdollahian pointed out that the inefficacy of the UN Security Council and the lack of condemnation of the Israeli regime's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus made it inevitable for Iran to legitimately defend itself and punish the Israeli regime.

On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Highlighting the importance of the region's security for the Islamic Republic of Iran, FM Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that the Israeli regime, backed by the US and allies, is committing genocide against the defenseless Palestinian children and women in Gaza.

He welcomed any initiative of the UN to create sustainable peace and security in the region.

The UN chief, for his part, pointed to Iran's punitive operation against the Israeli regime and invited Iran to practice self-restraint.

He also stressed the immediate de-escalation of the tensions in the region and the efforts to keep security in the region, saying that the UN's focus on the immediate ceasefire and termination of the Israeli war on Gaza.

So far, from the beginning of the all-out war against Gaza from October 7, , nearly 34,000 people have been martyred and over 76,770 others have been wounded.

People in Gaza are simultaneously coping with both the Israeli strikes and the famine emerging out of the regime's war on Gaza.
