Iran Press/Iran News: In a video-conference meeting with the Uzbek Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Sardor Umurzakov, Iran’s Vice President for Economic Affairs Mohammad Nahavandian reminded the historical, cultural, and religious common grounds between Iran and Uzbekistan, saying Tehran-Tashkent ties are rapidly expanding.
Nahavandian said the trade exchange volume between Iran and Uzbekistan since 2019 has increased by up to 40 percent compared with 2018.
He pointed to the reduction of trade exchange between the two countries due to the impact of the coronavirus in recent months and said that the reductions could be compensated in various ways.
Iran’s Vice President for Economic Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment of Uzbekistan also agreed on starting expert talks to renew the preferential trade agreement in the current week and holding a joint bilateral commission in Tehran in the second half of 2020.
The Uzbek Minister for his part said Tashkent welcomes the presence of Iranian investors and technical-engineering companies in economic and development projects and supports their activities.
He said Uzbekistan is interested in expanding scientific and technical cooperation with Iran.
