Tehran (IP) - Iran initiated the third phase of the 'comprehensive program of food health and originality', unveiling new achievements of the Food and Drug Administration.

Iran PressIran news: The ceremony inaugurated on Monday with the presence of the Minister of Health Bahram Einollahi, and  was accompanied by the unveiling of medicine for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  

The 'comprehensive program of food health and originality' was inaugurated in 2014. 

Training, implementation of methods for the analysis of chemical and organic toxins, methods of instrumental analysis of antibiotics in food, and detection of food fraud using spectroscopic methods in private sector laboratories.

Spiriva or tiotropium bromide was the medicine unveiled at the ceremony, a DPI drug to prevent the obstruction of pulmonary channels in those who suffer from asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The drug was earlier imported to Iran, but from now on is being produced domestically.  

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
