Iran PressAmerica: Iran will take resolute measures to protect its forces and interests in Syria from "any threat or unlawful act perpetrated" by the United States, Iranian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani said.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves its inherent right to self-defense under international law and will take decisive measures to protect its forces, interests, and facilities from any threat or unlawful act perpetrated by the United States or others," Iravani said in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council president that was released by the IRNA news agency on Tuesday. "The United States must acknowledge that the continued plunder of Syrian resources, the ongoing occupation of Syrian territory, and its support for separatists are the main causes of the confrontation of the Syrian people against the United States military forces."

Late on March 23, 2023, the United States delivered a series of airstrikes on facilities in Syria controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces), killing at least 11 Shia soldiers fighting for the Syrian army. The US operation followed a drone attack on the US airbase in Rmeilan that killed one US soldier and left six more wounded.
