Iran Press/Iran News: The competitions were held in the presence of the top 44 Iranian padel players, in compliance with health protocols, and in the end, the two-man team of Omid Souri and Sohrab Darfashi became the champions.
The winners of these competitions will be members of the Iranian national padel team.
According to the Iranian Squash Federation, the Iranian national padel team is scheduled to hold friendly tournaments with the national padel teams of Qatar and the UAE.
Padel, which is very similar to tennis, is one of the sub-categories of the Iranian Squash Federation.
Padel is typically played in doubles on an enclosed court roughly 25% smaller than the size of a tennis court. Scoring is the same as normal tennis and the balls used are similar but with a little less pressure. The main differences are that the court has walls and the balls can be played off them in a similar way as in the game of squash and that solid, stringless bats are used. The height of the ball being served must be at or below the waist level.
Padel is not to be confused with platform tennis, a winter and summer sport typically played at country clubs in the US and Canada, with courts heated from below to eliminate snow and water. The court, rules and styles of play are very different.
Masoud Soleimani, President of the Iranian Squash Federation, in an interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of the Iranian Stars Cup Padel championship, said: "The Iranian Squash Federation has carried out its activities on a regular basis and according to the schedule."
The president of the Iranian Squash Federation added: "Currently, the Racquetball and Squash championship competitions of the General Soleimani Cup are being held virtually."
Massoud Soleimani also announced the federation's plans to set up a national squash centre.
