Tehran (IP) - Following the confiscation of Iranian oil tankers' cargo in the Greek waters, Iran seized two Greek oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, lowering their flags today, Thursday.

Iran PressIran News: Greek authorities last month impounded the Iranian-flagged Pegas, with 19 Russian crew members on board, near the coast of the southern island of Evia due to EU sanctions. 

Iran seized the oil tankers 48 hours after its Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned on Wednesday Greece's Chargé d'Affaires (in the absence of its ambassador).

Iran called on Greece to stop piracy, a message that the Greek government ignored and handed the oil cargoes to the US. 

On Thursday, the US confiscated a seized Iranian oil cargo held on a Russian-operated ship near Greece and would send the cargo to the United States aboard another vessel.
