Iran Press/Iran News: Issuing a statement on Sunday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Goldberg was sanctioned under Articles 4 and 5 of the Law on Countering Human Rights Violations and the US Adventurous and Terrorist Acts in the Region, approved on August 13, 2017.
Richard Goldberg is a senior advisor at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He served on Capitol Hill, the US National Security Council, and as the governor of Illinois’s chief of staff.
The statement added that the US figure was sanctioned in order to achieve the objectives of the above-mentioned law on the imposition of sanctions against those US persons who are effectively involved in economic terrorism against the interests of the government and citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Richard Goldberg said earlier that even if Secretary of State Mike Pompeo could persuade Russia to extend the arms embargo on Iran, it would not be worthwhile to allow the remainder of the Iranian nuclear deal or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) -left from Obama- be preserved because JCPOA could give Iran access to nuclear weapons and the main limitations would end.
