Tehran (IP) - The Managing Director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad stated that Iran’s share in maritime transport of the world is more than 300 million tons annually.

Iran Press/Iran News: Addressing the reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony on the occasion of the International Day of the Seafarer, Mohamad Rastad responded to the Iran Press’ question on the position of Iran’s maritime industry in the world, saying that the country's share in maritime transport of the world is more than 300 million tons annually.

He further noted the number can be even increased due to Iran’s geographical position and its development in the transit sector.

Referring to the illegal sanctions imposed on Iran, Rastad added that we have faced some limitations in transferring container and liner ships.

Regarding the size of the owned fleet, Iran is among the top twenty countries in the world, he highlighted.

Considering the capacity of Iran’s ports and fleets, and its geographical position, Iran is considered as one of the most important countries in the maritime sector of the world and one of the effective members of the International Maritime Organization, he concluded.
