Iran's Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Russia on Tuesday to attend the meeting of senior security officials of BRICS member states.

Iran Press/Europe: Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian will attend the senior security officials summit of BRICS countries, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia, which will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from September 10 to 12.

Ahmadian will meet with some of his counterparts from BRICS member states during this trip.

In a meeting with Russian security officials, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council will discuss the most important issues in international and bilateral relations in the political, security, and economic fields. It is also said that during these meetings the considerations of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding energy corridors will be discussed.

The Iranian and Russian officials will also discuss the short-range ballistic missiles issue that recently has surfaced in the media. Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York has dismissed Western media reports alleging that the Islamic Republic had transferred ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the Ukraine war.

Iran has officially said: “Iran’s position vis-à-vis the Ukraine conflict remains unchanged. Iran considers the provision of military assistance to the parties engaged in the conflict which leads to increased human casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and a distancing from ceasefire negotiations to be inhumane.”

White House national security spokesman John Kirby said that they could not confirm reports that ballistic missiles from Iran had been dispatched to Russia.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The BRICS mechanism aims to promote peace, security, development, and cooperation. BRICS cooperation is built on the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, inclusiveness, consensus, and strengthened collaboration. 219
