Tehran (IP) - President Hassan Rouhani described Iran-Venezuela relations and cooperation as positive and friendly, stressing the need for the two countries' efforts to develop and strengthen Tehran-Caracas relations.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday 21 January during a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, referring to the friendly relations between the two countries, noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to expand its relations with Venezuela as a friendly country.

The president said Iran and Venezuela could expand their relations and cooperation in all fields, including in the fields of mines, energy, power plant construction, and scientific and technological cooperation, and we are ready to hold a joint commission on cooperation shortly. 

Referring to the US illegal sanctions against the Iranian people and their pressure and conspiracy against the Venezuelan government and nation, Rouhani termed these acts as a crime against humanity and said: "Independent nations have certainly stood up to these pressures, plots and the victory will certainly belong to the resilient nations while the US will be regretful."

The president added, "The current US government is acting against both sovereign nations and states at the expense of its people, and today it has become the implementer of Zionist policies in the world."

Venezuelan Foreign Minister for his part also expressed his condolences, sympathy, and solidarity of the Venezuelan government and people to Iranian over the martyrdom of Lieutenant General Soleimani in the US terrorist act, noting, "Certainly, sovereign governments and nations are standing against hostile pressure and conspiracy and defend their interests.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, in appreciation of the comprehensive relations and support of the Islamic Republic of Iran, calls for extending Tehran-Caracas relations and cooperation, and to establish a joint commission for cooperation in the fields of trade, economic and cooperation in various fields, including energy and pharmaceuticals and infrastructure.
