A high-ranking delegation of Iranian lawmakers has travelled to Syria in order to boost parliamentary relations between Tehran and Damascus.

Iran Press/Middle East: The delegation, headed by the Chairman of the Council and Internal Affairs Committee of the Iranian Parliament, Amir Khojasteh is to meet with senior Syrian officials during the trip.

The Iranian MPs were officially welcomed by Deputy Chairman of Iran-Syria Parliamentary Friendship Group Ragheb al-Hussein and Iran's Ambassador to Syria Javad Torkabadi, Iran Press reported.

Iranian lawmakers are scheduled to hold meeting with Speaker of Syrian People’s Assembly Hammoudeh Sabbagh, Deputy Speaker of the Syrian Parliament Najdat Ismail, members of Iran-Syria parliamentary friendship group and members of the People's Assembly's Directing and Guidance Committee and Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee.

Holding negotiations with Syrian Deputy-Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad is also on agenda of Iranian parliamentary delegation. 

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif also travelled to Syria on 16 April and met with top Syrian officials.

In a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Walid Al Muallem on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign minister stressed the need for expelling all the terrorists from Syria and respecting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

Tehran lent a helping hand to Damascus, sending military advisers to assist the anti-terror drive in the country.

Iran is currently exploring opportunities to contribute to the economic reconstruction of Syria. 101/211/202
