Iran Press/Iran news: According to the Hirmand Treaty signed in 1972 by Iranian-Afghan authorities, Iran's water share of the river equals 820 million cubic meters annually year and about 26 Million Cubic meters which varies in different months and seasons.
Having claimed Iran's water share, Afghanistan's previous government built the "Kamal Khan" dam in Nimroz province on the Hirmand River and prevented the implementation of the agreement, which caused a lot of damage to the ecosystem in the surrounding area of the river, especially in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Highlighting Iran's plan to claim the water right, Mehrabian noted: "Treaty will be pursued until the implementation."
