Tehran (IP) - The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, received the domestically-developed COVIran Barekat coronavirus vaccine on Friday.

Iran PressIran News: The Leader had, however, set two prior conditions: Firstly, insisting not to receive the vaccine outside the schedule that had been devised for the rest of the Iranians in the first place.

Secondly, Ayatollah Khamenei had required to receive only Iranian vaccines.

For this reason, when the first phase of the vaccination of Iranians aged 80 and above started, he did not receive the foreign vaccine and waited for the Iranian one.

Iran's first domestically produced vaccine, COV-Iran Barakat, is to be used in a mass immunization program following the third successful clinical trial.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, after India, China, Britain, the United States, and Russia, is the sixth country in the world and the first country in the West Asian region to have the ability to produce the COVID-19 vaccine.

Human injection of the first phase of clinical studies of the first coronavirus vaccine, made by Iranian researchers called COVIran Barekat, began on December 29, 2020.

Iranian scientists and experts have succeeded in developing several vaccines against the coronavirus, despite the cruel sanctions imposed by the US.
