Tehran (IP) - The Gamma Knife Center of Yas Hospital Complex in Tehran was opened on Sunday morning.

Iran PressIran News: Gamma Knife and radiation therapy mean irradiating X-rays to an area of the body where cancer cells have spread, such as the brain.

Malignant cells increasing at high speed and out of control are more sensitive to radiation than normal cells, and they are prevented from multiplying or being destroyed by receiving radiation.

According to Iran Press News Agency, the Gamma Knife Center of Yas Hospital Complex was inaugurated in the presence of Mohammad Eslami, Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran(AEOI), and Bahram Einollahi, Iran's Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education.

Alireza Zali, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences president, and a group of senior managers of Iran's nuclear industry were also present at this ceremony.

In recent years, despite the sanctions, Iranian experts and scientists have succeeded in expanding nuclear knowledge and producing advanced equipment in the area of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine equipment.
