Iran Press/Iran news: Hadi Khani, head of the National Financial Information Center and Secretary of the High Council for the Prevention and Combating of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, said, "The only connection between U.S. sanctions on certain Iranian individuals and entities and the FATF's countermeasures is that Iran's classification as a high-risk country for money laundering and terrorist financing has legitimized these sanctions and lowered the costs for other nations to impose similar measures against Iran."
Khani emphasized that FATF neither supports nor can support U.S. sanctions against Iran. He cautioned, "It is a strategic mistake to believe that merely removing ourselves from the list of high-risk countries for money laundering and terrorist financing will resolve all our economic problems. We should not settle for a score of zero, as we are not lazy students in the global fight against money laundering and terrorist financing. We should not present ourselves as such."
