Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations said: Tehran believes that the primary solution to the Syrian crisis lies in political means, because military measures only make the situation more complicated.

Iran PressAmerica: Iran's ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, at the UN Security Council meeting on "The Situation of West Asia: Syria" on Wednesday, stressed the importance of resuming the meetings of the Constitutional Committee as an effective mechanism for advancing the Syrian political process and expressed his hope that the disputes related to the venue of the committee meeting will be resolved quickly and its work will resume.

Iravani, referring to the humanitarian situation in Syria as still very dire, added: "One of the most important challenges facing Syria today is its severely disrupted economy, primarily due to unilateral sanctions and illegal exploitation of resources; these two realities both disproportionately affect women, children, and other Syrian people."

Noting that the role of the United Nations in Syria should be supportive, and all processes should be under the leadership of this country, he stated: "Unfortunately, after 12 years of the Syrian crisis, we still see the presence of active terrorist groups in this country; terrorist groups that are a serious threat to the security of Syria and neighboring countries."

Irvani also strongly condemned the regular attacks of the Israeli regime on Syrian territory and added: "The goal of the Israeli regime in carrying out such aggressions is to divert the attention of the international community from the daily heinous crimes it commits against the Palestinian people."

In the end, Irvani noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes and fully supports the recent positive developments in Syria's diplomatic relations, both on the regional fronts and in the international arena. 219
