Nicaragua (IP) - Iran's Foreign Minister says the country is proud of Nicaragua's resistance against the world's imperialist powers.

Iran PressAmerica: Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived at Managua Airport on Wednesday and was welcomed by his Nicaraguan counterpart.

Meeting with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that the development of Nicaragua and the energy security of the country is of paramount importance for Iran.

Amir-Addollahian told Ortega: "Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, tried hard to impose sanctions on Iran's oil export and bring it to zero according to his claim, but in Iran, we tried to neutralize the sanctions."

The Nicaraguan president, for his part, referred to the anti-imperialist background of the two countries against their common enemy and said: "We had a common enemy, the enemy that Iran fought against in 1979 is the very enemy that we fought against in Nicaragua and defeated in the same year."

Ortega noted that the US built atomic bombs and dropped them on people in Japan, but it launched propaganda against Iran's nuclear program, while Iran has repeatedly stated that it was not seeking an atomic bomb.

"We have common goals, which is peace for the nations of the world, and we express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela, Cuba, and Bolivia, who have been undergoing sanctions for years," he added.
