Tehran (IP)- Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces met with Pakistan's Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) in Tehran on Saturday to discuss expanding military ties between the two countries.

Iran PressIran news: General Asim Munir, Pakistan's Chief of the Army Staff, arrived in Iran on Friday for a two-day visit, marking his first visit to the country. 

On Saturday, General Munir led a delegation of high-ranking military officials and discussed with the Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, in Tehran.

The meeting was held to boost military, training, defense, and security ties.  

Major General Bagheri, in the meeting, cited the historical relationship between two neighboring countries as the foundation for enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation. 

He stressed the importance of developing military ties between Tehran and Islamabad and increasing training, joint defense, and security ties between the two countries.

This is Gen Munir's fifth overseas trip since he took command of the Pakistan Army. In April, he paid an official visit to China to "enhance bilateral military relations."

Earlier, the COAS also visited Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the United Kingdom.

Also, General Munir visited the UK in February at the invitation of Britain's Ministry of Defence to discuss strategic security issues.

Iran-Pakistan relations have been growing in various sectors recently. 

Pakistan has the longest joint border with Iran after Iraq, with more than 900 kilometers of land border.
