Iran offers consular assistance to crash victims families

Iranian Foreign Ministry announced it has formed a special working group to provide consular assistance to the bereaving families of the fatal air crash on Wednesday.

Iran Press/Iran news: The ministry's spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said the group was established following the order by President Hassan Rouhani to facilitate the affairs of the 176 victims of the Ukrainian Airlines plane which was mistakenly shut down.

Orders are given to diplomatic and consular missions of Iran abroad as well as domestic departments to deal with their issues, he said in a statement on Saturday.

In a related development, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the ministry is prepared to give assistance to the victims' families.

"My colleagues in the foreign ministry—and in embassies, missions and consulates worldwide—share the nation’s grief in the aftermath of the tragedy and stand ready to offer any needed assistance to families of the victims," he tweeted.

President Rouhani has said Iran welcomes international cooperation over the crash, and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has stressed investigating the causes behind the incident.
