January 3 marks National Mother’s Day in Iran and it falls on the birthday anniversary of Hazrat Fatemeh Zahra, the daughter of the holy Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him.

Iran PressIran news: It is a joyous occasion as one can see a lot of hustle and bustle on the streets and at shopping centers nationwide which are packed with people buying gifts and flowers for their mothers.

Many Iranians take the occasion of this holiday to thank and honor their mothers, grandmothers, wives and sisters and to spend more time with them.

Throughout history, women in Iran have played numerous roles, and contributed in many ways, to Iranian society.
