Hamid Bayat, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that the relations between Tehran and Rome date back to the civilizations of the two countries, said: "This year, Iran and Italy are celebrating the 160th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. This occasion, along with the recent international developments, is a great opportunity to expand relations between the two countries, including in the parliamentary sphere."
Piero Fassino, chairman of the Italian parliament's foreign affairs committee referring to good relations between the two countries in various fields, including culture and archeological cooperation, described Iran as a regional power, a country with great history and civilization.
He also reiterated Italy's support for the JCPOA agreement, described Donald Trump's withdrawal of the nuclear deal with Iran as wrong and expressed hope that the agreement would be fully implemented during the presidency of new US President Joe Biden.
Welcoming the cooperation and consultations between the parliaments of the two countries, Fassino emphasized his support for the expansion of relations in various fields. 219
