Iran Press/ Iran News: The recent report of international hydroelectric association shows that Iran's power output of hydroelectricity has reached 12 Gigawatt, ranks the country 19th in the world, 6th in Asia and second in the Middle East, Iran Press News Agency reported.

According to the report, a record 4,185 terawatt hours (TWh) in electricity was generated from hydropower in 2017, avoiding approximately 4 billion tons of greenhouse gases as well as harmful pollutants.
Worldwide, 26.5 percent of total produced electricity have been obtained from renewable sources, of which 16/4 percent is hydroelectric, 5/6 percent from windmills, 2/2 percent from biomass, 1/9 percent from solar and 0/4 from other renewable energy sources. Iran's hydroelectric share of total installed plants capacity has reached 15 percent.
The report also shows that China is the world’s largest producer of hydropower, and accounted for nearly half of global added installed capacity, at 9.1 GW. It was followed by Brazil (3.4 GW), India (1.9 GW), Portugal (1.1 GW) and Angola (1.0 GW).

Earlier, director of Iran’s Hydroelectric Power Plants Management Center announced that electricity generation capacity of the hydroelectric power plants in the country will reach 10,500-gigawatt hours (GWh) by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019).
Also back on December 31, 2018, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described water and power as two infrastructural and vital needs of the people and stressed the importance of supplying water and power for people’s security and calmness.
According to the Iranian president, electricity loss in the power system of the country has decreased to 11 percent from 15 percent.
