Urmia (IP)- Governor of Dohuk, Kurdistan Region of Iraq stated that Iraq has decided to boost economic, tourism, and commercial ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran PressIran News: At the meeting of governors of border provinces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan region on Thursday, the governor of Dohuk Ali Tatar Tawfiq stated that cultural, linguistic, religious, and geographical commonalities have provided the basis for further Iran-Iraq communication.

Expressing concerns about low-quality goods brought by merchants, the governor of Dohuk expressed hope that Iran-Iraq medical cooperation, including medical tourism and treatment, will increase.

Governor of Halabja Azad Tofiq, on his part, noted that without strategic and medical aid from the Islamic Republic of Iran, people in Iraqi Kurdistan would have barely survived the chemical bombing in Halabja.

Referring to Halabja-Kermanshah economic ties, Tofiq urged for the opening of border crossings markets for the trade goods and passengers.

The first meeting of the border governors of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with the presence of Iranian and Iraqi officials, started on Thursday in Urmia, West Azerbaijan northwest of Iran.

In addition to Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, Consul General of Iran in Erbil Nasrullah Rashnoudi, Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Mohammad Rezvani-Far, the governors of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Iran, and the governors of Erbil, Dohuk, and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq presented in the meeting.
