Tehran (IP) - The head of Iran's Commission of Aviation Incidents Investigation said the Ukrainian plane crash has occurred in Iran and the country is in charge to investigate the incident.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Friday on the sideline of a press conference over Ukrainian plane crash, Mohsen Rezaifar said that Iran is a member of Chicago Treaty and according to the treaty's Annex No. 13, the country where the incident took place, is responsible for investigating.

"According to the Chicago Treaty, Iran must inform the involved countries in the incident, so Sweden, Afghanistan, and Canada were informed on the day of the incident and they monitor the process of investigation," Rezaifar said.

"So far Ukraine, Sweden, France, Canada, and the US have introduced representatives to take part either in monitoring or investigation processes, yet Afghanistan has not introduced its representative."

Rezaifar said already a team from Ukraine has come to Iran and meanwhile is investigating the incident along with the Iranian team.

The plane belonging to Ukrainian airlines crashed near Tehran minutes after the take-off from Imam Khomeini Airport after its engine caught fire. All the 167 passengers and 9 crew members were killed in the crash.

During the past 15 months, two crashes involving the US Boeing Max 737 plane occurred, calling into question the safety of this kind of airplane.

In March 2019, more than 157 people were killed in a crash of a Boeing Max 737 belonging to the Ethiopian Airlines. Also, 189 people were killed due to the crash of a Boeing Max 737 belonging to Indonesian airline in October 2018.
