Tabriz (IP) - The traditional and religious ritual of candle lighting in mosques and religious places was held on Ashura eve in Tabriz, the capital of East Azerbaijan province, northwestern Iran.

Iran PressIran News: Mourners lit candles in 41 mosques in Tabriz to commemorate the lighting of candles by Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions at the night of Ashura.

The traditional candle-lighting ritual is one of the nine Ashura rituals in East Azerbaijan Province, which has been registered as an intangible heritage in the list of national monuments of Iran.

Sunday coincides with the tenth day of Muharram (Ashura) 1442 AH (August 30, 2020). On this day, many places in Iran are covered with black banners, and people mourn for Imam Hussain (AS).
