Tehran (IP) - President Rouhani in a phone conversation with Emir of Qatar warned that If the US causes any problem for Iranian oil tankers in the Caribbean Sea or anywhere in the world, they will face problems as well.
Iran Press/Iran news: Rouhani told Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Saturday that the security of the Persian Gulf region is important for Iran and although US actions in different parts of the world created unacceptable conditions, Iran won't initiate escalation of tensions and conflict.
President Rouhani referred to the possibility of Americans' actions in the Caribbean Sea for Iranian Tankers carrying fuel for Venezuela went on to say that "If our tankers in the Caribbean or anywhere in the world face any problems caused by the Americans, they will face problems as well."
Emphasizing that Iran will never be the initiator of any conflict, the President added, "We have always considered the legitimate right to defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity and to serve our national interests, and we hope that the Americans will not make a mistake."
Rouhani added that "Unfortunately, the United States continues its wrong decisions and inhumane behavior."
A flotilla of five tankers carrying Iranian fuel for Venezuela is approaching the Caribbean, with the first vessel expected to reach the South American country’s waters on Sunday or Monday.
Iran is supplying about 1.53 million barrels of gasoline and alkylate to Venezuela. The US recently beefed up its naval presence in the Caribbean.
Venezuela’s defense minister has said its military will escort the Iranian tankers once they reach the nation’s exclusive economic zone.
