Tehran (IP) - Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said the liberation of Khorramshahr on 24 May 1982 ended the great conspiracy of global, international and regional arrogance against the Iranian nation.

Iran PressIran news: Speaking in the meeting of the National Task Force for Fighting Coronavirus, Hassan Rouhani said that today is the anniversary of the liberation of the southwestern city of Khorramshahr from the Ba'athist Iraqi regime, and a very important day in the country's national history, country and holy defense.

"The Iranian nation showed on 24 May 1982 that even if the most modern weapons are in the hands of the enemies, the will of our nation will prevail over all of them," he added.

Iranian forces recaptured the strategic port city during landmark operation code-named Beit ol-Moqaddas in 1982, putting an end to over 500 days of the Iraqi occupation.

During the week-long operation, some 6,000 Iranian soldiers were martyred and nearly 24,000 others injured.
