Over 3 million tourists visit Fars Province in six months

More than 3 million tourists have visited historical and cultural sites in Fars province in southern Iran in just six months.

Iran Press/Iran news: In the first half of this year (March 21, 2019, to September 22, 2019), more than 3 million domestic and foreign tourists have visited historical and cultural sites in Fars Province, in southwest Iran.

According to an Iran Press report, director-general for Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Fars Province Mosayeb Amiri said: Hafezieh (the Tomb of famous poet Hafez) with 924,618 visits, Sa'adi complex with 543,944 visits and Takht-e Jamshid (Persepolis) with 540,099 visits are among the top 3 most visited places in Fars province, respectively.

"The number of foreign tourists in the first six months of this year was 194,624 with tourists from France, Italy, and Germany leading the list of foreign visitors," he further added.

Fars is a province in southwest Iran known for its rich Persian culture and history. 

Fars is the historical homeland of the Persian people. It was the homeland of the Achaemenid and Sasanian Persian dynasties of Iran, who reigned in Iran at the time of the ancient Persian Empires. The ruins of the Achaemenid capitals Pasargadae and Persepolis, among others, demonstrate the ancient history of the region.
