In a televised speech from the Iranian parliament (Majlis), Iranian President stated that the Trump administration's maximum pressure policy will not work against Iran, and Tehran will not bow to US pressure.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking to an audience of parliamentarians in the Majlis on Tuesday morning, President Hassan Rouhani said after 16 months of resisting "maximum US pressure" the world has come to understand, and the Trump administration is beginning to realize, that Iran will not submit or surrender to US demands, no matter how extreme the pressure.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani said: "The three branches of the government, the legislative, judicial, and the executive, must coordinate with one another, working closely with one another," Iran Press reported.

President Rouhani is personally attending the Majlis to lend as much support as he can to two individuals he has handpicked for ministerial positions within his cabinet. The two ministerial nominees, Ali Asghar Mounesan and Mohsen Haji Mirzaie, must pass a vote of confidence in the Majlis (parliament).

Speaking on Tuesday morning at the Majlis, President Hassan Rouhani said: “The world and United States’ point of view towards Iran has changed in the past 16 months and the US has found out that the Iranian nation will not yield to pressures”.

In further comments Rouhani said: “Our people’s strong faith and steadfast resistance has scuppered the enemies’ calculations. The world and United States’ point of view towards Iran has changed in the past 16 months”.

“In the imposed war [with Iraq], the then superpowers, United States and the [former] Soviet Union, stood by the enemies of the Iranian nation and did not think that Iran could win the war alone”.

He pointedly added: "In this Second Imposed War, which is a propaganda and economic war, our nation will emerge victorious”.

“It is the first time that United States finds itself all alone and isolated in its plot against a nation,” he said, adding, “Iran has defeated the United States in the political and legal battlefields”.

Elaborating further President Rouhani said: “Today, the United States and its [few] allies, essentially an illegitimate fake regime and a couple of small countries, are alone and the Iranian nation sees itself alongside major nations of the world and the international community.  If the 4+1 Group used this opportunity to live up to its commitments [under the JCPOA ], we would do the same”.

Turning to domestic issues, Rouhani said: “The wise act by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution to set up the Supreme Council of Economic Coordination has benefited the country in many ways. Parliamentarians are the main supporters of the government. The Majlis backs the government”.

Turning to the economy, the President said the producer price index has fallen to 0.7%, adding: “The currency market is relatively stable and the capital market is promising. Licensing and industrial workshops’ activities have increased by about 20 per cent. Entering the Eurasian Economic Union facilitates our regional trade”.

President Rouhani warned the US by saying: “Agreement with our economic partners to trade with local and national currencies weakens the US dollar”.

“Despite sanctions, we inaugurated 14 South Pars phases and 15 petrochemical phases,” continued Rouhani, adding, “We consider resistance and diplomacy as complementary”.

The President also said, “After one year of strategic patience, we began the policy of reducing our tensions”.

He added, “We continued reducing our JCPOA commitments; we also continued negotiation with countries that are close to us like China and Russia and other European countries”.

“If Europe fulfils an important part of its commitments, we will reverse the decisions that we have made, otherwise, we will definitely take the third step,” continued President Rouhani.

He added, “Of course, the further steps we take forward, settling the issue will be harder and more complicated, but since the steps that we have already taken are reversible, this will not take a long time”.

Stating that, “If they buy our oil and Iran takes the money, we will witness other conditions,” he said, “If we do not reach a final agreement until Thursday, we will announce the third step of reducing our commitments further”.

The President continued, “We have said it many times, and say it again that we have no decision for bilateral negotiations with the United States”, saying, “If the United States lifts all sanctions, it can enter the 5+1 negotiations like before”.

“Of course, some invitations have been made by many parties, but our response has always been negative and we have no other response to such invitations. Bilateral negotiations with the United States will not take place.”

He added, “Bat’haie (former education minister) was one of the good ministers in the cabinet; he resigned to run for parliamentary elections”.

He also said, “Cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism are the tools of explaining national identity,” adding, “Tourism is the driving engine for the economy and employment”.

Dr Rouhani also went on to say, “Education Ministry is a very important ministry that lays the foundation for advancement of the country”.

He continued, “I call on all members of the parliament to give a vote of confidence to both ministers”.

“Vitality in business and investment is a necessity for increasing employment,” said Rouhani adding, “Remarkably under sanctions, we have reduced unemployment”.
