Iran Press/ Iran news: A huge mass of dust in Iraq entered Iran on Tuesday this week and has affected the western and border provinces.
This huge mass of dust has reached other provinces of Iran, including Tehran province, and on Wednesday, schools, universities, and government offices in Tehran were closed due to the high concentration of fine dust.
Following the escalation of the dust phenomenon in the region and the President's Ebrahim Raisi strict order for immediate follow-up, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote a letter to the foreign ministers of countries of dust origin or affected by the environmental crisis caused by the widespread release of dust in the region.
"In addition to bilateral technical cooperation to control dust, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for the conclusion of a regional convention with the participation of the United Nations and its specialized organizations, especially the United Nations Environment Program and the World Health Organization," Amir- Abdollahian said in the letter.
The letter of Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs states:
In addition to bilateral technical cooperation to control particulate matter, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls for the conclusion of a regional convention with the participation of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, in particular, the United Nations Environment Program and the World Health Organization.
Amir-Abdollahian added in this letter: "It is necessary to create a fund under this convention to which international and regional aid has been deposited, and the fight against the phenomenon of dust and desertification should be coordinated and accelerated as soon as possible from the location of this fund."
In another part of his letter, the foreign minister noted: "This environmental phenomenon knows no borders and is related to the health of all people in the region, so it is necessary that all governments in the region, regardless of political issues, participate in a serious and effective response to the dust crisis."
It should be noted that Amir-Abdollahian had previously spoken to the foreign ministers of Syria, Iraq, and Kuwait over the phone about the sensitivity and urgency of managing the problem of the dust of foreign origin in different countries, which has led to the disruption of normal life.
