Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif , on Monday urged dialogue and trust building among the Persian Gulf's littoral states.

In the message which was published today, Zarif congratulated all who have coexisted peacefully in the Persian Gulf region for thousands of years, saying all of them should be congratulated on 30 April, the National Day of  the Persian Gulf.  Zarif added:  “It is a historical fact and a valuable heritage from our ancestors".

He called for dialogue, cooperation and trust building among the Persian Gulf states to elevate peace in the region.

Zarif described the Persian Gulf as 'symbol of our region's culture and history' and noted that it has served for years as the region's "vital artery of global trade and energy".

The Iranian foreign minister said that establishment of a regional dialogue assembly is a practical step towards peace in the region.

Persian Gulf National Day marks the anniversary of the day the Portuguese colonial forces were driven out of the Strait of Hormuz in the Capture of Ormuz .
