Iran Press/ Iran News: Iranians of all walks of life attended the mourning ceremony of Ashura observing the health protocols.
Mourning groups began the ceremony from the early hours of the morning, chanting elegies and crying tears for Imam Hussain (AS) and his faithful companions.
This year, mosques and mourning groups and centers across Iran held their ceremonies outside in the open air, following health protocols, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Today, Sunday (August 30, 2020), the tenth day of Muharram 1442 AH, is the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shi'a Muslims, who was martyred on the 10th of Muharram in the year 61 AH in Karbala at the age of 57.
Imam Hussain (AS) was a grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was martyred along with 72 of his family members and companions in 680 A.D. in a land that is known today as Iraq, after they refused to pledge allegiance to the tyrant of the time, Yazid.
The Battle of Karbala between a small group of supporters and relatives of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and a larger military detachment from the forces of the caliph represents a war between good and evil.
