In a significant development, Iran has now transitioned from a mere "collaborator" to a "partner in decision-making" within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), according to Caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani.

Iran PressIran news: "Thanks to the initiative of the martyr Raisi's administration, today we are 'partners in decision-making' within this international political-security mechanism," Bagheri said in a post on his social media account.

Bagheri's remarks came as Iran's Acting President Mohammad Mokhber attended the 24th SCO Summit in the Kazakh capital, underscoring Tehran's strategic choice to deepen its participation and influence within the multilateral organization.

"The presence of Mr. Mokhber at the 24th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan, on the eve of the presidential elections in Iran, underscores the fact that active participation in the Organization's mechanisms is Iran's strategic choice for deepening and enhancing its effective role in multilateralism," Bagheri said.

Iran's elevation to partner status within the SCO's decision-making process marks a significant milestone, as the country transitioned from its previous "collaborator" role to becoming a full-fledged participant in shaping the organization's policies and initiatives. The SCO, headquartered in China, is a diplomatic organization comprising nine members, including Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and the Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. During the ongoing summit, Belarus is set to become the 10th full member of the bloc.
