The spokesman for Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) on Sunday dismissed media reports alleging that Berlin intended to ban the country’s Mahan Air airline from using German airports in 2019.

Iran PressIran news: Iran's Civil Aviation Organization has not received any report from the German officials on sanctions against Mahan Air, Reza Jafarzadeh said.

According to Iran Press, Jafarzadeh added in an Interview with Fars news agency that Mahan Air had been conducting flights to Germany for nearly 15 years, and had a six-month contract for winter flights with the country.

The airline carries out six flights between Tehran and Germany per week: four flights from Duesseldorf and two more from Munich.

Bilg newspaper claimed that the German government had taken the decision to stop Mahan Air from operating its flights to Dusseldorf and Munich after intensive deliberations on US demands.

The US government has sanctioned several companies for their links to Mahan Air, including a Thai aviation company and a Malaysia-based sales agent.

Alongside Mahan Air, US treasury department has slapped sanctions on several other Iranian airlines, including Caspian Air, Meraj Air, Pouya Air and Dena Airways. 

Back in May, the US withdrew from a 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement with Iran and said it would re-introduce the sanctions that had been lifted under the accord.

Washington reinstated a series of unilateral sanctions against Iran in early August and re-imposed a second batch in November 2018 which were meant to target Tehran’s oil exports.  101/202
