Iran Press/ Europe: The German government had taken the decision to stop Mahan Air from operating its flights to Dusseldorf and Munich after intensive deliberations on US demands, according to Bild report.
A German government spokesman said he could not comment on the report in Bild, which said Mahan Air would be banned in January.
The US government has sanctioned several companies for their links to Mahan Air, including a Thai aviation company and a Malaysia-based sales agent.
This is not the first batch of US sanctions targeting Iranian airlines and companies associated with them, as Washington accuses them of delivering military forces to Syria and Lebanon.
Previously, Washington sanctioned the Iranian airline, Mahan Air, saying the company transported 'operatives' of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, as well as weapons and equipment, to Syria.
Alongside Mahan Air, US treasury department has slapped sanctions on several other Iranian airlines, including Caspian Air, Meraj Air, Pouya Air and Dena Airways.
The US embassy in Berlin has criticized Germany for allowing Mahan Air to fly to two major German cities, Dusseldorf and Munich. Mahan Air says on its website that it also operates flights to Paris, Barcelona, Milan and Athens.
Germany and its European Union partners are at odds with the United States over policy toward Iran.
Back in May, the US withdrew from a 2015 multilateral nuclear agreement with Iran and said it would re-introduce the sanctions that had been lifted under the accord.
Washington reinstated a series of unilateral sanctions against Iran in early August and re-imposed a second batch in November 2018 which were meant to target Tehran’s oil exports. 101/ 211 /202
