Iran Press/Europe: During a meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London on Monday, Ali Akbar Safaei, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, criticized several Western representatives, particularly from the United States. He accused them of using the IMO platform to further their political agendas.
It is unfortunate that some delegations, including the US, have once again spread false and misleading information to further their political agendas, Safaei said.
He emphasized Iran's dedication to maritime safety and freedom of navigation, advocating for enhanced security in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf.
Commenting on the situation in Yemen, Safaei emphasized that the Yemeni people act independently, making decisions based on their own interests and considerations.
Iran categorically denies unfounded accusations from certain Western governments, which only serve to justify and legitimize the unlawful US military aggression in Yemen, he stated.
Safaei criticized the military actions of the US and UK in Yemen, calling them violations of Yemen's territorial integrity and international law. He rejected US assertions of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter as unjustifiable.
The deputy minister affirmed Iran’s adherence to UN Security Council Resolutions 2140 and 2216, denying any participation in arms sales or transfers.
He stressed Iran's support for resolving the Yemeni crisis peacefully through diplomatic means and its dedication to maintaining maritime security and freedom of navigation.
Safaei concluded by attributing regional instability to acts of genocide perpetrated by the Israeli regime against Palestinians and Lebanese civilians, which receive full support from the US and its allies.
The United States, the United Kingdom, and their allies bear full responsibility for their continued support of the Israeli regime, he stated.
