UN (IP) - Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations condemned the West's double standards in fighting terrorism.

Iran Press/America: Addressing the UNGA meeting on Terrorism and Global Counter Terrorism Strategy on Tuesday, Majid Takht Ravanchi pointed to Iran's strong will to fight terrorism and slammed some of the western countries over their double standards and politically biased approach in fight against terrorism and blacklisting other countries as well as their organizations as terrorists. Commemorating the international figure of the fight against terrorism LT. Gen. Qasem Soleimani assassinated by the US terrorist operation in Iraq, Takht Ravanchi considered the invasion and military intervention in other countries' affairs as the roots of terrorism.

He stressed that the most important strategy to counter terrorism was to pay attention to its roots, including countering unilateral inhumane sanctions against nations.

The Iranian envoy also welcomed the condemnation of terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure, including nuclear facilities, which lead to environmental radioactive disasters.

In this regard, he pointed to the terrorist attack on the Natanz nuclear facility on April 11, 2021, which was coincided with the UN meeting, and urged the countries to counter the perpetrator of such crimes and punish them based on the resolution being approved in the meeting.

Takht Ravanchi also referred to the martyrdom of more than 17,000 Iranians in the operations of terrorist groups in Iran, saying: "Since 1979, more than 17,000 of our innocent citizens, including the President, the Prime Minister, the Head of Judiciary, several ministers and members of Parliament as well as several nuclear scientists, have been assassinated by terrorist groups that are being sheltered and provided safe havens in Europe and North America with unimpeded access to and connections with government officials."

“It is to be reminded that the strategy 'calls upon member states to deny terrorist groups safe haven, freedom of operations, movement and recruitment and financial, material or political support' and 'to ensure that terrorists do not find safe haven online," he added.
